This is precisely how traversal works in linked structures. You cannot jump directly to the 50th node because there's no global index telling you where it is. You must start at the head (the entrance), follow each node's pointer to the next, and walk the chain one step at a time.

Traversal is the most fundamental operation on linked structures. Every other operation—searching, inserting, deleting, reversing—requires traversal. Master traversal, and you've built the foundation for mastering linked lists entirely.
